During this presentation, the following topics will be covered:
Building a Strong Culture Begins with Managing Fraud Risk, Peter Grupe
Ethical failure is one of the consistent (and persistent) root causes of fraud. Given the inverse relationship between culture and fraud, where a poor culture leads to high rates of fraud, it’s important for organizations to consider their culture and ethics program not only as a method of good corporate governance but as a means of fraud risk management.
Join us for a practical discussion on behaviors that are (virtually) driving fraud risk and how that information can – and should – be considered when conducting ethics and culture audits.
Learning Objectives:
- Distinguish between the concepts of ethics, culture, conduct and compliance.
- Discuss perspectives about hot topics impacting remote and hybrid workplaces.
- Identify the interdependent relationships between ethics, compliance and fraud risk management programs.
Fraud Risk in the Roaring 20’s, Robert Hennigan
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." (George Santayana, 1905)
It’s been over 100 years ago that the decade known as the Roaring Twenties first began, and yet, the similarities between fraud schemes then and now are striking.
Engage with us in a discussion of key history lessons involving unethical business practices and how they can be applied in combating fraud risk in today’s market.
Learning Objectives:
- Contrast historical fraud trends and recent statistics.
- Illustrate key drivers and fraud schemes for risk assessment purposes.
- Examine techniques to evolve your fraud risk assessment.
Economic Extortion Through the Cyber Lens, Pamela Verick & Dr. D. Kall Loper
Fraud is a dynamic and evolving risk impacted by changes in an organization’s ecosystem, business model, leadership and culture. For many, operating in an extended remote work environment has created the need to reassess their fraud risk profile.
This session will focus on how certain fraud schemes have evolved in the pandemic environment, along with the key role that internal auditors play in helping elevate their organization’s fraud hygiene.
Learning Objectives:
- Outline fraud risks arising from a virtual office environment.
- Explain the evolution of extortionware schemes directed at businesses and individuals.
- Discuss steps to help improve cybersecurity.
Cyber Smash and Grab? Cleaning up after Financial Crimes, Michael Lefebvre
In the cyber version of a smash and grab theft, a criminal gains access to an organization’s resources – money, data, and people – by breaking through systems and network security. The organization often suffers damage beyond simple financial loss and includes regulatory penalties, shareholder lawsuits, loss of reputation, and uncertainty of remaining data integrity.
Listen as we share readiness and preparedness techniques and provide illustrations from actual incidents so that you understand attack trends and tactical drivers to enhance cyber incident response activities.
Learning Objectives:
- Breakdown attack trends used by cybercriminals.
- Analyze tactical drivers to enhance cyber incident response activities.
- Explain defined methods of approach to ambiguous, third party reports of compromise.
